Bachelor's degree

A Bachelor's degree is an undergraduate academic degree awarded by universities upon completion of a specific program of study.

A Bachelor’s degree serves as the first step in higher education and is required before pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree.

In most countries, a Bachelor’s program lasts 3 to 4 years, though this can vary:

-Europe (under the Bologna system): usually 3 years (180 ECTS credits).

-United States and Canada: typically 4 years.

-United Kingdom and Australia: 3 years, with some professional programs (like engineering or medicine) lasting longer.

-Asia: between 3 and 5 years, depending on the field and country.

There are various types of Bachelor's degrees.  Common types of Bachelor's degrees include Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), among others.

Students develop critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, making them well-equipped for a variety of career paths or further education.

Overall, a Bachelor’s degree serves as both a stepping stone to higher education and a key qualification for entering the workforce in many fields.

Master's degree

Studying abroad is not only about bachelor's degrees, but also master's degrees. However, in order to study a Master's degree, it is necessary to complete a Bachelor degree.

A Master’s degree is a postgraduate academic qualification that allows students to deepen their knowledge and specialize in a specific field of study. It helps develop advanced expertise, research skills, and professional competence.  Master's programs abroad can vary in length. It all depends on the country. Typically lasts 1 to 2 years, depending on the country and program:

  • Europe (Bologna system): usually 2 years (120 ECTS credits).

  • United Kingdom: often 1 year full-time.

  • United States and Canada: 1–2 years.

  • Asia and Australia: usually 1.5–2 years.

The first year there are compulsory and elective subjects that are required to be passed. In the second year, study involves writing and defending a master thesis.

Preparing for admission to a master's program is, first and foremost, learning a foreign language. Each university has its own requirements for language proficiency. To be admitted to foreign universities, students need to score at least 6.5 on the IELTS or 550 on the TOEFL.

A master's degree abroad is, to a large extent, independent work. You will have to use your analytical and research skills and remember what competent time management is.
